Synopsis The Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, adapted into
a superior stage thriller, has proven over the years to be a compelling
courtroom drama that conveys a timeless message of truth. A young
lieutenant relieves his captain of command in the midst of a typhoon on the
grounds that the captain was psychopathic in the crisis and was directing the
ship and its crew to its destruction, threatening the lives of all aboard.
The executive officer is brought up on mutiny charges and his attorney has
little sympathy for his plight, but reluctantly agrees to defend him. To
win, he must prove that Capt. Queeg is a mad tyrant, an irrational man who
needed to be relieved of command at that crucial moment based on his earlier
behavior. Naval tradition is against the young lieutenant, but testimony
eventually reveals a devastating picture of the captain.
